It is a valve used to relieve pressure or vacuum generated inside the storage tank due to liquid loading or unloading, or thermal aspiration and expiration. Gases inside the storage tank are released into the atmosphere.
Pressure/vacuum relief valves are used to prevent tank damage from excessive internal pressure or vacuum, and to reduce evaporation of the tank’s contents into the atmosphere by preventing free venting.
Storage tanks become pressurized when liquid is pumped into the tank because the internal vapor is compressed as the level rises, or also at high temperatures as the existing gases expand.
Similarly, vacuum conditions occur when liquid is removed from the container or when the temperature drops. Proper calibration of the pressure/vacuum relief valves will prevent damage to the tank structure from excessive internal pressure or vacuum.

Pressure and vacuum valves have two discs to regulate tank pressure and vacuum. Pressure: While the pressure in the tank increases, the vacuum disc remains closed. When the calibrated pressure is reached, the pressure disc lifts, releasing the vapors to the atmosphere.
